Update – Fritztown Free Trappers March Rendezvous March 9-12

From Jack Simons . . .

On behalf of our Booshway Matò, just a reminder that the Fritztown Free Trappers March Rendezvous begins three days from now.  Although the forecast calls for rain, we are praying and hoping it will go around. Watch your emails closely as we will send out an email about the status of the Nagelmueller Ranch.  While we’d muscle through it if it rained, we also don’t want to tear up the property as it is still a working ranch and running cattle.

More details are on the Events page

Interested in my property being used for a 2017 Rendezvous

From Richard Meador:

Just had a grinding machine clear about two new acres leaving only the trees. This probably triples my campsite capacity. It butts up against the pond. Would like to find someone that would like to have their rendezvous here in 2017 anytime from closing day of deer season to the first weeks of Sept.  This offer is open to  “all” clubs or groups including TAB. I’m stocking the pond for a fishing contest.
Property is located in Texas, between Normangee and Centerville.

Volunteers Needed – Alamo Area Council Boy Scouts of America – Mountain Man Rendezvous 2/18-2/20/2017

From Ann Specht, Mountain Man Rendezvous Committee:

We are planning a Council event next February 2017 with a Mountain Man Rendezvous theme.  We are looking for some folks that are “experienced” mountain men that would be interested in coming to our event and show the Scouts what life was like for mountain men.  We are anticipating 750+ in attendance.

We will have an area that is designated as the traditional Mountain Man camp where you would be welcome to set up tents, etc.

We will also have a traditional Indian Village.
We will also have several events based on traditional Mountain Man things – candle making, rope making, fire starting, archery making/shooting, various gun events, bullet casting, blacksmithing, and much more.

The Institute of Texan Cultures will be there also.

We have at least one Chuckwagon that will be joining us.

If you know of anyone that would be interested in helping us out, please let me know.

If you are interested in helping out by setting up a camp or demonstration, please do let Ann know!

She can be reached via email at spxtx@aol.com

The Alamo Area council is located in San Antonio, TX, so it would be in that area.

Burn Ban Update on TAB Fall Rendezvous – 2015

From Big John Donahoo:

I have spoken to the Leon County Judge’s Office today in reference to the burn ban variance I requested for the Club on Tuesday. The Leon County Judge has denied our request for a variance on the burn ban. There will be NO FIRES at TAB Fall Rendezvous next weekend. This includes metal fire pits & braziers. Please come prepared with either propane or alternative fuel stoves/cookers.

The 10-day forecast does call for rain next Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, but the County Judge’s Office says it is highly unlikely the Judge will issue any burn ban variances unless a majority of Leon County receives substantial rainfall. I will monitor the area weather and request the variance again if that rain does occur, but at this point it will have to be a “cold camp”.

For the Board of Directors,

John Donahoo
TAB President 2014-2016

Important Details for October Fritztown Freetrappers Rendezvous!

Two updates for the October FF event in Shiner:

1.  BRIDGE IS OUT –  see below
2.  BURN BAN CANCELLED!!!!!!
The bridge on our usual route to the Shiner Rendezvous site is gone!
But there are two other routes to take, probably depending on whether you are coming from Shiner or Gonzales.
I have shown them as the Orange and Green on the attached map.
The shortcut on the Orange route is good for all but the largest campers, and even then, they have been removing some of the overhanging branches.
We will try to put out a few signs, but not on Hwy 90A.
Thanks to Craig, our highway engineer for the heads up.

Update on the Fritztown Freetrappers Burn Ban

From Booshway Iron Burner . . . Below is info on the Burn Ban…..

Our Shiner site is in Gonzales County, which has a burn ban in effect.  This means:

“No burning of any combustible material outside a contained area that serves to contain all flames or sparks.”

To me, this means more than just metal fire rings.

Charcoal would be a good idea.

And as a safety measure we should have fire buckets full of water around every fire and never leave a fire unattended.

None of us could bear the thought of starting a grass fire, so please plan on meeting and exceeding the requirements.
