Update: Texas Free Trappers Rendezvous XXV (Nov 11-13, 2016)

From Joe Wolf –

Ho buckskinners………sorry to be so late with the flyer and schedule.
I hope the fact that our rendezvous schedules are pretty well known.
We had some pilgrims at the Fritztown Rendezvous that we hope will come to Texas Free Trappers Rendezvous XXV.
I’m hoping to get a Knife & Hawk Walk ready in time to be used. I’m trying to get a course set up with 6 hawk blocks. Pacing distances to targets will not be allowed. The course would be done twice, with a break between them.
Be ready for a Round Robin. Some priceless objects are probably hidden in your wood and brick tipis.
Keep an eye on the horizon…..

Update: Fritztown Annual Fall Rendezvous – October 14-16

Update from Jack:

Fall is officially here, but the hot temperatures are trying to hold on.  Sure is, however, great to wake up to the cool mornings and that makes me think of Rendezvous Time!

The Fritztown (FFT) Annual Fall Rendezvous is a little over a little over a week away.   I have updated information concerning the memorial to Gene and Kathleen Nagelmueller.  It will begin at 4:00 p.m. that Saturday at an old tree Gene used to deer hunt at.  All FFT events will end before 4:00 and give everyone plenty of time to make it across the ranch.  After the memorial, dinner is being provided by the Nagelmueller Family so there is no need to bring a potluck meal for Saturday night.  Thank you Shirley, Heath and the rest of the Family.

Also, we are not doing a prize blanket as I stated earlier in the flier (enclosed has not been modified), but will instead handout cash prizes for the winners of each FFT event.

A special thanks goes out to Heath and Layton Nagelmueller, Glenn Darilek, Rusty Hathaway, Craig Segner, Bruce Shulter and David Williams for all their help at last Saturday’s work day in getting the site ready.  It looks awesome!

To promote our friends at the Comanche Peak Muzzleloaders, they are having a rendezvous this weekend, October 6-9, 2016 in Palestine, Texas.  Contact Chuck Morrison (Iron Horse) at chuck.morison@yahoo.com

(254) 392-3546 or Mike Roberts (Teeny) at mchlroberts90@gmail.com (817) 487-6853.  Flier can be found in events section of www.buckskinning.org

Have a great week and see you October 14-16!

The Fritztown Freetrappers always put on a great event, so take advantage of the improving weather and go join them!

Interested in my property being used for a 2017 Rendezvous

From Richard Meador:

Just had a grinding machine clear about two new acres leaving only the trees. This probably triples my campsite capacity. It butts up against the pond. Would like to find someone that would like to have their rendezvous here in 2017 anytime from closing day of deer season to the first weeks of Sept.  This offer is open to  “all” clubs or groups including TAB. I’m stocking the pond for a fishing contest.
Property is located in Texas, between Normangee and Centerville.

Fritztown Rendezvous Work Day, 10/1

With the Fritztown Rendezvous a little over a month away, we are asking for volunteers to help clean up the site at the Nagelmueller Ranch.  If you can make it, the Fritztown Rendezvous

Work Day is Saturday, October 1, at 9:00 a.m.  It could still be hot, so we are getting an early start.

We’ll be cutting back brush, providing a little maintenance to the hooter (aka outhouse), touch up archery targets and blocks, if necessary and a variety of other things.  Be sure to bring gloves and plenty of water.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me or call 210-846-6375.

Your booshway, Jack Simons

Volunteers Needed – Alamo Area Council Boy Scouts of America – Mountain Man Rendezvous 2/18-2/20/2017

From Ann Specht, Mountain Man Rendezvous Committee:

We are planning a Council event next February 2017 with a Mountain Man Rendezvous theme.  We are looking for some folks that are “experienced” mountain men that would be interested in coming to our event and show the Scouts what life was like for mountain men.  We are anticipating 750+ in attendance.

We will have an area that is designated as the traditional Mountain Man camp where you would be welcome to set up tents, etc.

We will also have a traditional Indian Village.
We will also have several events based on traditional Mountain Man things – candle making, rope making, fire starting, archery making/shooting, various gun events, bullet casting, blacksmithing, and much more.

The Institute of Texan Cultures will be there also.

We have at least one Chuckwagon that will be joining us.

If you know of anyone that would be interested in helping us out, please let me know.

If you are interested in helping out by setting up a camp or demonstration, please do let Ann know!

She can be reached via email at spxtx@aol.com

The Alamo Area council is located in San Antonio, TX, so it would be in that area.

Mountaineers and their children…

“The mountaineers in their rude hunting dresses, armed with rifles and roughly mounted, and leading their pack-horses down a hill of the forest, looked like banditti returning with plunder. On the top of some of the packs were perched several half-breed children, perfect little imps, with wild black eyes glaring from among elf locks. These, I was told, were children of the trappers; pledges of love from their squaw spouses in the wilderness.”
